Stoke vs Tottenham - Premier League preview and team news

By Stephen Donovan

Friday 25 April 2014

Stoke City will be looking to remain on course for a first top 10 finish in the Premier League with a win at home to a Tottenham side that is in good scoring form.

Several near misses late on will have meant Stoke left the Cardiff City Stadium after their last game with a tinge of disappointment at only getting a draw, particularly as victory would have lifted them above Newcastle United into ninth place. Despite that, Mark Hughes has enjoyed a very strong first season in charge of the East Midlands club, and they could have a bright future ahead.

Tottenham have hit the net 11 times in their last three outings, the first time they have been really potent in attack all season. Youngster Harry Kane has made a positive impact since being introduced to the starting line-up by Head Coach Tim Sherwood, and the England U-21 international has so far succeeded in keeping his much more expensive teammate, Roberto Soldado out of the team.

The hosts will be hoping that Erik Pieters will be fit enough to start after he was injured early on at Cardiff. Robert Huth remains out.

Erik Lamela, Jan Vertonghen and Kyle Walker are still out for a Tottenham side destined for a sixth placed finish. This game may also come too soon for Etienne Capoue and Michael Dawson.
