Albrighton poised to sign new Aston Villa contract
Aston Villa winger Marc Albrighton is set to extend his stay with the West Midlands club by signing a new contract, the Birmingham Mail is reporting.
The 24-year-old appeared to be one of the players set to be heading out of the exit door after suffering from long-term injuries prior to the start of this season, and being sent out on loan to Wigan Athletic back in October.
However, since returning from the DW Stadium, Albrighton has been one of Villa’s standout performers since being reintroduced to the first-team by manager Paul Lambert, making 17 Premier League appearances.
And with his current deal set to run out in only a matter of weeks, Villa have moved to secure Albrighton’s future, offering a new deal which they expect him to sign. Lambert said: “Regarding Marc, that will get taken care of, I’m pretty sure pretty quickly. I think Paul (Faulkner) has spoken to his agent a couple of weeks back. I think Marc’s relaxed. He’ll be fine. It will get done.”
Lambert also praised Albrighton’s recent form, adding: “He’s been absolutely fantastic, on the top of his game. He was excellent on Saturday up against left-back Luke Shaw, a player who you can understand is being talked about highly. But I thought Marc was excellent, especially in the second half. He’s been so unlucky with injuries but he’s been very good since he’s been back.”
