Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has admitted that he is not surprised with speculation linking other managers to his post after a poor run, Sky Sports reports.

Following five consecutive defeats in a row, the Tyneside club is surrounded by rumours of which new manager will take over.

Sources at the club have already been forced to quell rumours of Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis taking charge, but now the front runner appears to be David Moyes after leaving his Manchester United post.

"When you lose five games in the Premier League, if you can't accept that there's going to be some speculation about your job, then you are not being realistic," said Pardew.

"I have to be realistic, but what I won't do is focus away from what I do. I have worked really hard this week with the team and really focused on the team to make sure we put a performance in at Arsenal that we can be proud of.

"The situation, the longer-term here, looks good, but in the short term, we need to put it right."

Pardew will be returning to the touchline for the first time on Monday after his stadium ban for an incident involving Hull’s David Meyler.

The 52-year-old admitted that he would take a more relaxed approach this time around in a bid to clean up his act.

"I think I will sit down a little bit more, but I still will be on the touchline. It's important that the team sees I'm there - we are a team and I am part of that.

"I have thought about my situation going forward and I think I will be better for it."
