Giroud: Fourth is good enough for Arsenal
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has insisted that finishing fourth in the Premier League and qualifying for the Champions League next season constitutes a successful season for the club, ESPN has reported.
The Gunners meet Newcastle on Monday night and a win would take Arsene Wenger’s side four points clear of Everton with three games to go, despite losing to the Toffees at Goodison Park earlier in April.
Arsenal are also through to the FA Cup final and Giroud believes the final league games of the season are equally as crucial as the Wembley showpiece against Hull. “They are important because of fourth place and the Champions League. We have closed the book on the FA Cup, we will open it again on May 17,” Giroud said.
“If we finish fourth, we have not lost anything and it will be a good season. I think that if we finish fourth, that will be a successful season. And the FA Cup, if we win, would be a bonus. To finish fourth is almost crucial for the club.”
Giroud has scored 20 goals for Arsenal this season in 49 games and has confirmed he wants to stay at the Emirates Stadium despite being linked to a move to Roma.
