Manchester United are considering other candidates to succeed David Moyes as manager despite Louis van Gaal being the favourite to take over, according to Sky Sports.

Ryan Giggs & David Moyes

Following David Moyes sacking last week, the Manchester club have held positive talks with Dutchman Louis van Gaal who will be coaching the Netherlands at the World Cup.

The 62-year-old will step down after the World Cup this summer and has been strongly linked with Tottenham and Manchester United but the Red Devils are still considering other candidates.

Despite not being confirmed, it is believed that United are looking at Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp and interim manager Ryan Giggs as a shortlist.

Giggs took charge of his first game as Manchester United manager with a 4-0 win over Norwich at the weekend and is now considered to be a candidate for the role full –time.

"We've got everything in place to have a successful season next year. We've certainly got the players,” said the Welshman.

"It's going to be hard, obviously, because we've had a tough season and obviously the lads at Liverpool have improved and other teams around us have improved.

"It won't be easy, but I'm confident."

"We won the league last year. The year before we lost it on goal difference, the year before that we won it.

"Where did Liverpool come last year, seventh? Who would have said they would be where they are this year, so a lot can change."
