Carragher: Fans can’t complain about Chelsea tactics

Tuesday 29 April 2014

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says Liverpool fans shouldn't moan about the tactics used by Chelsea in the league clash on Sunday, Sky Sports News has reported.

Liverpool were beaten 2-0 on Sunday thanks to goals from Demba Ba and Willian, with manager Brendan Rodgers joking that Mourinho’s side had ‘two buses parked’ throughout the game.

But speaking on Monday Night Football, ex-Reds defender Carragher said supporters can’t complain because his former club have played exactly the same way in the past.

“I've done it playing for Liverpool. I remember going to Barcelona in 2001 in the UEFA Cup and we got a 0-0. We did exactly the same as what Chelsea did yesterday, we went there for our clean sheet. Johan Cruyff said after the game we were a disgrace to football.

“You can't complain and say 'we don't play like that'. We've done it before and been successful at it. You can't complain. Lots of teams have done it, we've done it, so get on with it and try to find a way to fix it” he added.

Defeat for the Merseyside club has severely dented their hopes of retaining the title for the first time in 24 years, with Manchester City now favourites due to a greater goal difference.

But despite the title being in City’s hands, Carragher believes the Reds can still go on and end the season as champions.

He said: “If Liverpool win their two games left, I still think they've got a great chance of winning the title - and they've got to get that into their heads.

"I know they have [sports psychiatrist] Steve Peters there and it's his job to lift the mood, but get the players together and ram home that message now.

"This title's still on."

Rodgers’ men had gone 16 games unbeaten in the league before Sunday’s defeat and have two games left in the league, with a trip to Crystal Palace on Monday, before hosting Newcastle United on the final day of the season.

I believe both Caragher and Nevel proved to be qualaity pundit regardless of their link with specific clubs. Many. including myself, had reservation re their impatiality when the were first given the roles by Sky. I have not seen any big bias from them so far in their analysis of games, players, managers regardless of their clubs. Well done.
