Swansea City are set to “reflect” on Garry Monk’s spell as manager so far before making a decision on the former defender’s future at the club, reports South Wales Evening Post.

Garry Monk

The interim player-manager, who has made 226 appearances at the Welsh outfit so far, earlier this week urged the board to clarify his future in the position. Chairman Huw Jenkins has now stated that the two will attend a meeting before deciding whether Monk should take the role on a permanent basis.

“Over the next couple of weeks we are going to talk things through with Garry and reflect on his time in charge,” said Jenkins.

He continued: “The decision we are going to make will be a huge decision, and obviously it will be made in the best interests of the club going forward.

“Hopefully it will be a long-term decision that gets the club in the position where we want to be.”

Monk has made it clear that he wants the job full time, having arrived in the seat following the sacking of Michael Laudrup in February. Jenkins has stated that a decision is not likely to arrive this week, but that Monk’s future – and that of the Swansea manager’s position – should be cleared up by the time the Swans travel to Sunderland for the final league game of the season.

Jenkins concluded: “We all agree that we would like to get everything sorted and clarified as soon as we can.”

A host of Swansea players have spoken out in support of Monk getting the job on a permanent basis, with the 35-year old having guided Swansea to Premier League security by taking 15 points from his 12 games at the helm.
