Cech tells reporters he’s fit to face Atletico
Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has told reporters he’s fit to face Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League semi final on Wednesday evening, the Daily Mirror has revealed
Cech, who made a shock return to the training ground today, was asked by reporters if he was fit to play, answering them with ‘of course’.
The Czech stopper had been ruled out of the rest of the season by manager Jose Mourinho last week with a dislocated shoulder after a freak fall in the first leg against Madrid.
However the 31-year-old joined in the training session with his fellow keepers despite him struggling to raise his right arm above his shoulder.
The appearance of Cech may well be a bluff by Mourinho but if fit, the return of the club’s number one may provide a huge boost for supporters ahead of the clash at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.
Mourinho was also able to welcome back skipper John Terry, Samuel Eto’o and Eden Hazard who also took part in the session at their training complex in Cobham.
Chelsea will be without Frank Lampard and John Obi Mikel tomorrow night through suspension with Nemanja Matic and Mohamed Salah cup-tied having played for Benfica and Basel respectively in the competition already.
Winger Eden Hazard is set to return having revealed he’s fit to play whilst picking up the PFA Young Player of the Year trophy on Sunday evening.
The Belgian will return to the squad having been missing for three weeks after picking up an ankle injury during the Champions League quarter-final with PSG.
