Everton manager Roberto Martinez has dismissed suggestions his side will make it easy for Manchester City when they meet on Saturday in an effort to harm the Premier League title chances of Liverpool, Sky Sports has reported.

Liverpool are currently top of the table with a three point lead over City, who are third. But City have a game in hand and should they win all of their games, would win the title on goal difference, as it stands.

Martinez told a Press conference prior to the Saturday evening fixture that it is wrong for anyone to suggest Everton would pervert the title in such a way, and stressed that the game is as important for the Toffees as it is for City.

“I don't think there's any doubt about the integrity of our football club towards the league and towards the competition,” Martinez said. “We are a football team and football club who want to win every game we go into and we're looking at ourselves.

“They're precious points for us so we can't afford not to give everything to get every point we have left, but helping other teams is not the way we do our work.”

Everton are currently fifth, four points behind Arsenal in the race to finish in the top four and qualify for next season’s Champions League. The Gunners host West Bromwich Albion on Sunday and Everton need the Baggies to beat Arsene Wenger’s side to keep alive their hopes of overtaking the London club.
