Victory for Aston Villa against FA Cup finalists Hull City will ensure Premier League safety, but defeat is likely to leave them needing a result at Tottenham on the final day.

Manager Paul Lambert and several of his players have underlined the importance of this match in recent days, but now is the time they deliver on the pitch. The Scot will also be hoping his team can receive the full support of what has been a restless Villa Park crowd, with a comprehensive 4-1 defeat at Swansea City last time out only serving to ensure that their patience is starting to come to an end.

Hull can now rest quite easily, as their comeback from two goals behind to grab a point at struggling Fulham means only a freak set of results could send them down now. That underlines the great progress made under Steve Bruce as he approaches the end of what is only his second season in charge, and with Villa under such pressure, he may his side’s chances of reaching the 40-point mark.

Leandro Bacuna should feature for Aston Villa despite being forced off at Swansea due to illness. Joe Bennett could also come in while Grant Holt should continue in attack.

The away side could hand a start to Sone Aluko, who impressed as a substitute at Fulham. Joe Dudgeon, Robbie Brady and Allan McGregor are still out, however.
