Friday 02 May 2014

Chelsea assistant manager Rui Faria has been given a six-game stadium ban for the touchline class with referee Mike Dean and fourth official Phil Dowd in the 2-1 defeat to Sunderland, BBC Sport has reported.

Faria, who is Jose Mourinho’s right hand man, was involved in an altercation with the officials late on in the game which saw Dean award the visitors a late penalty.

After confronting both Dowd and Dean, the Portuguese coach was sent to the stands and later admitted to two charges of misconduct and has since been fined £30,000.

His ban will see him miss Chelsea’s final two games of the season against Norwich City at home and then away at Cardiff City on the final day of the season. He will the serve the four remaining games at the beginning of next season.

Chelsea boss Mourinho is currently contesting his own charges after his comments after the match regarding referee Dean and Mike Riley, who is head of the Premier League’s refereeing body.

Faria has worked under Mourinho as a fitness coach, since 2002, when the pair were at Porto and has also worked with him during his time at Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
