Rodgers waits on Sturridge fitness
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that the club will check on the fitness of striker Daniel Sturridge ahead of Monday’s game against Crystal Palace, Sky Sports reports.
The England international’s fitness is a doubt after suffering with an on-going hamstring injury despite returning to action for the final half hour against Chelsea last weekend.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Rodgers told reporters that the 24-year-old will be checked over the next 48-hours before confirming the player’s availability for the penultimate match of the season.
"We'll see over the next 48 hours," said Rodgers.
"He hadn't trained since he got injured in the game against Manchester City, so it was a bit much against Chelsea.
"He had worked really hard to get back and we needed something on the bench that could support us and help us in the game but unfortunately, it wasn't to be.
"But he's certainly in a much better place. He's worked tirelessly this week with the medical team. He re-joins the group and we'll see how he is come Monday."
The former Chelsea and Manchester City man is expected to return to team training on Saturday ahead of the match against Palace but the forward’s fitness may cause Liverpool to assess their options.
Despite forming a powerful attacking partnership with Luis Suarez this season, the side have managed to switch to system in which they utilise Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho supporting in his absence.
