Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has said that he was ‘sad’ to see David Moyes get sacked by the club after a disappointing season, BBC Sport has reported.

Moyes was dismissed on April 22 with the club set to finish seventh in the Premier League despite finishing as champions last season. The club will not take part in the Champions League next season, while they also failed in both domestic cup competitions, losing to Sunderland and Swansea City respectively.

Fellaini followed Moyes to Old Trafford from Everton last summer, when he was the club’s only major signing in a £27.5m deal. However, the Belgian has struggled to make an impact at the club and was left out of the squad altogether for interim boss Ryan Giggs’ first match in charge against Norwich City.

And the 26-year-old admitted that he was sad to see Moyes depart. He said: "It was a hard week because I was close with the manager. I was sad, but that's football. Results are the most important thing in football so the club decided to make the choice.

"Now we have a new manager and we are looking forward. We have three more games left in the season and we want to finish strong."
