Barkley: City goal was one of my best
Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has said that his goal against Manchester City on Saturday was up there as one of his best ever, according to Evertonfc.com.
The England man put the Toffees 1-0 up at Goodison Park with a 34-yard strike to beat his international team-mate Joe Hart.
Despite City turning the game around and going on to win 3-2 at Goodison Park, the 20-year-old put in another fine performance which will raise questions about his inclusion for the England World Cup squad.
"I'd have to say it's up there with my Newcastle goal," said Barkley.
"It was past Joe Hart and it was good for it to be at Goodison as well."
Everton’s loss to Manchester City meant that they missed out in the battle for fourth spot and the final Champions League place but they will still be making an appearance in Europe after clinching a Europa League spot.
Barkley, who is a former Everton ball-boy, admitted that he was thrilled with what the club have achieved this season and he hopes to improve on his fine breakthrough season.
"It's a fantastic achievement. [Roberto Martinez] set out to get European football when he came here and that's what he's done,” added Barkley.
"It'll be good for the supporters playing in Europe too.
"I was here a few years ago and the atmosphere on those nights is fantastic and it's great for the fans."
