Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi has said that he would be open to staying at the club if a new deal can be agreed, Sky Sports reports.

Ameobi has spent his entire career at the Tyneside club but is out of contract in the summer and has been linked to a move elsewhere.

Newcastle have raced a disappointing end to the season after several fan protests against the running of the club, and the side will be looking to rebuild despite Ameobi’s wishes to stay.

"I never say never in this game because I don't know what is going to happen next season, but it has been a fantastic 14 years for me here and I've loved every minute," said the 32-year-old.

"Yes, we've had our fair share of ups and downs over the years but on the main I've been overwhelmed by the support and everything that has come with playing for Newcastle United."

Manager Alan Pardew will be expected to dip in the transfer window this summer after facing pressure to rebuild a team that struggled since selling Yohan Cabaye to PSG in January.

Pardew also went on to highlight the service Ameobi has brought to the club and hopes to agree a new deal with the Nigerian.

"That's something me and Shola and the Board will look at," Pardew added.

"He's been an absolutely magnificent servant for this football club."
