Robson: Van Gaal needs Giggs
Former Manchester United captain Bryan Robson has said that Ryan Giggs must stay at the club even if Louis Van Gaal takes over, according to Sky Sports.
Following the sacking of David Moyes, Ryan Giggs has taken temporary charge of United’s final games of the season, earning a 4-0 win over Norwich and a 1-0 loss to Sunderland.
Despite strong reports that Van Gaal is set to take the managerial reigns, Robson believes that Giggs and the rest of his staff must remain at the club to boost the team’s morale.
"I think it would be very disappointing for those lads not to be kept on, in whatever role, as they are part of Manchester United," said Robson.
"The fans would be very disappointed if they don't have a future in the club.
"I have read that Van Gaal wants to bring in a goalkeeper coach, a fitness coach, and (Patrick) Kluivert as his assistant.”
Moyes faced much criticism when taking over for replacing much of Sir Alex Ferguson’s coaching staff with his own.
Now Robson believes that the club must step in to prevent the same mistakes form being made and listen to the fans.
"If you are talking about bringing all these people in you have to make sure that you are making the right decision and you are not allowing them too much rope,” added United’s longest serving captain.
"It is up to the board to step in and say 'you can have leeway with this, but there are definitely restrictions on this part of the club'.
"That has to come from the club rather than the new coach. Sometimes I think when you go into a new club, why not give the staff a chance?"
