Andreas Weimann hopes that Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert will be in charge at Villa Park next season, according to Sky Sports.

The Villans were only able to mathematically secure Premier League survival last weekend, and their erratic season has seen some to question Lambert’s long-term future at the club, but the 22-year-old Austrian international for one hopes that the Scot remains at the helm. Weimann, who has scored six goals in 31 Villa appearances this term, hopes that the speculated shift in the boardroom at the club don’t affect Lambert’s position, saying: “There’s no reason for him not to be here.

“It’s been difficult, the last couple of months, but only for the last six games when we started losing. Before that we were sitting in 10th so we were doing okay. He gave me the chance last year and I’ve played pretty much every game this year so I like it.”

Weimann arrived at Villa in 2007 as a youth player from Rapid Vienna, graduating to senior team duties in 2010. He spent a spell on loan at Watford in 2011, but has since gone on to establish himself in the Villa Park first-team.

Lambert, meanwhile, is determined not to rest on his laurels and let future speculation affect his job performance, with Sky Sports reporting on his resolve to test title hopefuls Man City when the two teams meet at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.
