De Boer prefers Tottenham to Barcelona

Current Ajax manager Frank De Boer has revealed he would like to manage in the Premier League after recent reports linked him to Tottenham Hotspur, Sky Sports has reported.

It is thought that Spurs are considering replacing rookie Tim Sherwood at the club’s helm come the end of the season and reports suggest they are interested in the man who has led Ajax to four successive Eredivisie titles.

The Dutch club had previously said that they had had an approach from Spurs - who moved to deny this, but the former Netherlands international has reiterated that contact was made.

De Boer said: “Tottenham talked informally with Ajax of my contract. I think they are quite happy with Tim Sherwood, but it is normal that they take information about a possible successor, as did Liverpool in the past.

“That time, I said I wanted to stay at Ajax. I'm very happy here.

It is unclear whether current boss Tim Sherwood will be allowed to continue his 18 month contract signed in December, even though he boasts the highest win percentage of any Tottenham manager in the Premier League.

Discussions will take place at the end of the season between Sherwood and Chairman Daniel Levy and were the position to become available, De Boer would relish an opportunity in England, seemingly ruling out a move to Italy.

De Boer added: “I have never talked to Inter Milan, but I prefer the Premier League, Bundesliga and La Liga. Italian football is very much in decline.

“I would not go to Barcelona. It is very difficult to be a coach there. What can you teach players like Messi and Iniesta? But if it came from a club with an interesting perspective and a good team, I would consider the proposal."
