Manchester United have delayed the potential announcement that Luis Van Gaal will be their next manager until the end of the season after it was expected that it would be confirmed this week, the Daily Star has reported.

Van Gaal is the man United have chosen to become David Moyes successor and it was thought Chief Executive Ed Woodward had been hoping to confirm this by the end of the week.

But it now appears the champions will now wait until the end of the season before announcing the Dutchman as their next boss, who has reportedly signed a deal worth around £7m a season, and will take charge after managing the Netherlands at this summer’s World Cup for the last time.

It is also believed that while Van Gaal will be focusing his on the World cup from now until its end he has already given a list of his desired transfer targets to Woodward, and will leave it up to him to strengthen the squad in his absence.

The Dutchman boasts an impressive managerial record, with La Liga, Eredivise, Bundesliga and Champions League titles all to his name during his time as a manager.
