Swansea look set to name interim manager Garry Monk as the new permanent manager ahead of the season’s finale at Sunderland, according to Sky Sports.

Garry Monk

Sky sources understand that the club have decided to continue with Monk’s stint in charge rather than look for a new face, and will make the announcement within 48 hours.

Monk joined Swansea 10 years ago, with the club still in League 2, and managed to secure Swansea’s Premier League survival with some time still to go when the Welsh outfit beat Aston Villa 4-1 in April.

He took charge on an interim player-manager basis following the sacking of Michael Laudrup in February, and now appears to have done enough to secure the job on a permanent basis. The 35-year-old himself seemed to hint that he was set to get the job after the club fell short at home to Southampton last weekend, though stopped short of actually stating it, by saying: “Nothing's been confirmed.

“They [the board] said they would confirm it [the manager's role] before the end of the season, so that means there's a week left and obviously sooner will be better rather than later.”
