Man City vs West Ham - Premier League preview and team news
A win or a draw for Manchester City at home to West Ham United will see Manuel Pellegrini’s men become champions for the second time in three seasons.
It now looks inevitable that City will be the team to lift the trophy after the final whistle, having capitalised ruthlessly on Liverpool taking just one point from their last six available. On Wednesday, they had to be patient against Aston Villa, but eventually managed to show their quality and prove why they were the pre-season favourites. However, they have always seemingly needed to play catch-up.
The title would be a fine achievement for manager Manuel Pellegrini in his first season in English football, making it a league and cup double which arguably justifies the decision to part company their winning boss of 2012, Roberto Mancini.
Coming off the back of a morale-boosting victory over Tottenham where their two-goal winning margin failed to illustrate the extent of their dominance against 10 men, West Ham will surely offer more of an attacking threat than Aston Villa did. If rumours are to be believed, this could be Sam Allardyce’s final match in charge. Anyhow, he would love to produce a shock here.
Sergio Aguero is a doubt for Man City but could be fit enough for a place on the bench. Jesus Navas is unlikely to feature, and defender Matija Nastasic is definitely out.
West Ham could stick with the same side that beat Tottenham, with on-loan striker Marco Borriello their only injury absentee.
