Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes UEFA are right to threaten expulsion from the Champions League for teams who breach regulations on Financial Fair Play, ESPN has reported.

Manchester City are one of the teams facing sanction from the governing body ahead of next season with City likely to have a forced reduction in their Champions League squad, from 25 to 21, and a hefty fine.

“You would think you accept the rules and you're in the competition or you don't accept the rules and you're not in the competition - then everybody would understand it,” Wenger said at a Press conference when asked for his thoughts on FFP.

“Yes, I like it. Look, I am complete supporter of financial fair play. I think every business should live with its own resources, like in any other activity,” he added regarding the punishments set to be handed out to City and Paris Saint-Germain, among others.

“As for the punishment, I think it is a sophisticated punishment and I would like it to be a more simple one that makes more sense,” he continued. “Maybe they [UEFA] have studied that for a very long time to be in accordance with the legal side of it, I don't know.”

Arsenal will be in next year’s Champions League after fighting off Everton for fourth in the Premier League. The Gunners are seven points clear of the Toffees with a game to play despite losing 3-0 at Goodison Park earlier this season.
