Newcastle striker Cisse out for ‘several months’
Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse has undergone surgery on a broken kneecap and will be unable to play or train for ‘several months,’ Sky Sports has reported.
Cisse was injured in the Magpies’ 2-1 defeat to Swansea City last weekend and the operation took place in Paris this week. He will continue his rehabilitation in France before returning to England.
Newcastle haven’t put a further timeline on the Senegal international’s come back and it isn’t specified if Cisse will be available for the start of next season.
This season Cisse has made 27 appearances for Newcastle but managed only four goals, having scored13 in 47 last year and 13 in 14 games in the second half of 2012. He joined Newcastle from Freiburg in 2012’s winter transfer window.
Newcastle are guaranteed a top half finish in the Premier League this season but could be overtaken by Stoke City, who are two points behind Alan Pardew’s ninth-placed side. Newcastle meet Liverpool at Anfield on the final day while Stoke play West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
