Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said that he has enjoyed his return to Premier League football with the Blues despite being surrounded by controversy throughout the season, according to Sky Sports.

The Blues are set to finish third in the Premier League after a trophyless season but could find themselves climbing to second if other results go their way and they achieve victory on Sunday.

Despite having been fined twice by the Football Association in recent weeks, £8,000 for pitch encroachment and £10,000 for sarcasm, the Portuguese boss has said he likes English football.

"Obviously I have enjoyed most of the things that have happened. I don't enjoy defeats but I have to say, for example, to lose at Crystal Palace is English football.

"To lose at Newcastle in spite of having a good first half, that's football, that's English football.

"But to lose like we did against Sunderland or against Aston Villa is not English football and I like English football, I don't like what isn't English football.

"What happens, happens. The past is not the best way to prepare for the future. I want to prepare for the future I don't want to stay forever with what happened this season."

The season was Mourinho’s first back since leaving London in 2008 after three successful and trophy-filled years with the club.

The West London club reached the Champions league semi-final but were also handed Jose Mourinho’s first ever Stamford Bridge defeat in a season of highs and lows for the coach.

"This season I lost a match at Stamford Bridge for the first time," Mourinho said. "I lost with the second goal (against Sunderland) and for me that's the highlight."
