Sunderland star Borini targets milestone, admits no discussions with Liverpool
Sunderland loanee Fabio Borini is not aware of where he will be playing his football next season, after revealing that he has held no discussions with parent club Liverpool about his future, writes The Sunderland Echo.
Black Cats boss Gus Poyet is believed to want to keen the 23-year-old Italian on Wearside, but any permanent transfer seems unlikely – though another season-long loan may not be out of the question.
The former Chelsea youth player, however, says he has enjoyed his time in the north east, and wants to finish his time at the club by reaching 10 goals in the current campaign – a feat that would match his own previous personal best.
Speaking to the Sunderland Echo, Borini said: “The target is to get into double figures. The last season I played fully I got 10 goals, so to equal that personal record is an obvious target.
“I’ve enjoyed every second here, not just every minute. It’s been great from the fans, the people, the city and everyone at the club – the love and friendship they’ve given me throughout the season.
Matching that target would mean finding the net against another club he has spent time at on loan, Swansea, as his current tally sits at nine. That game is the final match of the current season, after which Borini is scheduled to return to Liverpool.
A win could potentially see the Wearsiders rise as high as 12th in the table – astonishing considering they sat seven points away from safety just five games ago – though that position would require a considerable goal difference turnaround over both West Ham – who face title hopefuls Man City on the same day – and their own opponents Swansea.
