Interim Man Utd player-manager Ryan Giggs has insisted that he is not too disappointed to have been overlooked for the Old Trafford hotseat on a permanent basis, according to BBC Sport.

Giggs took charge of the club he has served as a player since 1991 for the final four games of the current campaign, after former boss David Moyes was dismissed in April. The Red Devils have won two and lost one in his three games as manager so far, with the final game coming on Sunday when the team travel to St. Mary’s to face Southampton.

Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal appears to be the favourite to take the role on a full-time basis, and has already stated his interest in the job.

Giggs, however, admits that while he has enjoyed the job and the experience it has brought, that he is not too disheartened if stories of van Gaal’s impending appointment prove to be true.

He said: “With all the things going on, whether to carry on playing or not, there are a lot of things to consider.

“This experience has definitely helped me, I have loved it, but there is no major disappointment.”

Giggs featured as United saw off the visit of Hull, and has admitted that he is unsure about whether or not that may have proven his final game at Old Trafford as a United player. His current contract runs out in the summer, and unless the new manager offers him a new deal the Welshman has already admitted that he could hang up his boots – stating that he wouldn’t want to play for another Premier League club.

Speaking of his future, Giggs continued: “It will depend on if the new manager wants me. Do I want to put my body through another year of eating the right things, the discipline, another pre-season?

“Do I want to go out still enjoying it and not go on a year too long? These are all the things I have to consider.”

Giggs currently holds the appearance record at United with 963, and is the most decorated player in the club’s history, having won 34 trophies during his career.
