Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has hailed his side after they defeated West Ham United 2-0 on Sunday to become Premier League champions for the second time in three years, reports the Daily Mail.

Needing only a point to guarantee top spot, Man City were rarely in danger, and took the lead when Samir Nasri’s 25-yard drive went in off a post. David Silva had a shot deflected on to the crossbar before half time, but the win was sealed when captain Vincent Kompany was first to react to a loose ball following a corner.

For Man City, it completes a highly successful season, also winning the Capital One Cup and making the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time. Pellegrini, after failing to win a major trophy in Spain, becomes the first non-European manager to win the Premier League title.

Setting his sights on more titles, the Chilean praised his side for their determination throughout the campaign. He said: ‘We were the best team in the Premier League. It was a very special season for us, we were hardly never top, we had games postponed. But the players believed in me. It's a very special group.

'I must be calm during the game because I have to make decisions. And over the whole year, there have been lots of difficult moments. The players always believed what I told them. To play the way I like, because that is what football must be like in a great team.

‘I think this team cannot be satisfied with just one title. We have two titles this year. We will celebrate today and on Monday. On Tuesday, we will start to prepare for next year.'
