Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been named the League Managers’ Association Manager of the Year in a ceremony on Monday evening, BBC Sport has reported.

After guiding the club to a seventh-place finish in his first season in charge, Rodgers has made great progress this time around, turning his side into title contenders as they narrowly lost out to Manchester City. The Reds also managed to score over 100 Premier League goals as they finished second against all the pre-season odds.

The Northern Irishman becomes the first Liverpool boss to win the award in its 20-year history, but it was Crystal Palace’s Tony Pulis who won the Premier League manager of the season gong, for lifting the Eagles from apparent certainties for relegation to mid-table security.

LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson praised Rodgers for his effort this season, saying: "There can be no greater tribute to a manager and his work than a tribute awarded by his match day foes and peers. For Liverpool and Brendan, I'm sure we all hope this season marks the beginning of a new voyage and a new era."
