Chelsea agree £32m fee for Costa
Chelsea have agreed a £32m fee with Atletico Madrid as they move closer to the signing of star striker Diego Costa, according to the Daily Star.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho has had his sights set on Costa for several months as he looks to sign a world class striker to help the club make the final step to win major honours. Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres all struggled to make a significant impact this season, which meant Chelsea ended without a trophy.
Mourinho is keen to get the deal done quickly, to prevent Costa’s value from rising during the World Cup, in which he will represent Spain. Chelsea have now triggered the 25-year-old’s release clause, and are now free to discuss personal terms with Costa, which will likely see him triple his wages to £150,000 per week.
All this comes just days before Atletico take on Barcelona in a La Liga title decider, and the Champions League final a week later could be his final appearance for the club after a season which has seen Costa score an impressive 36 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions.
