Toure eyes Man City Champions League success
Manchester City star Yaya Toure has challenged his team mates to gun for Europe’s most illustrious prize in the Champions League after they regained their Premier League crown, Sky Sports has reported.
Manuel Pellegrini’s men lifted the double this season having also triumphed in the Capital One Cup, but once again failed to make a big impact on the European stage – Spanish giants Barcelona dumping them out in the last 16 4-1 on aggregate.
Toure once again played a starring role this season for City, and with the club expected to be active again in the transfer window, the Ivorian is demanding a greater impact this time around.
“Next year I think we will try to bounce back, try to qualify for the first round and second round try to get it. For me the target is to go far and win the Champions League," Toure said.
“For me the Champions League is the next target until maybe, I don't know maybe I will go in another club."
Under Roberto Mancini the club did not fair well in Europe’s top club competition.
The Italian saw City exit the competiution twice at the group stage during his time in charge, and while Pellegrini has improved this record – including a stunning win at the Allianz Arena against holders Bayern Munich, would have hoped to create a bigger splash.
