Pochettino tops Tottenham manager list

After Tottenham Hotspur dismissed rookie Tim Sherwood it has emerged that Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino is top of Chairman Daniel Levy’s wish list, the Daily Star is reporting.

Sherwood was sacked just five months into an 18 month contract after Levy exercised a break clause inserted in the deal, and is now drawing up potential candidates to fill the White Hart Lane hot seat.

It was feared that Sherwood had lost the dressing room and fans had grown increasingly frustrated, with Sherwood’s name booed when read out during Ledley King’s testimonial match earlier this week.

A statement from Levy read: “We agreed an 18-month contract with a break clause and we have now exercised that option.”

Spurs had been interested in Dutchman Louis Van Gaal but after it became apparent he was in for the United job, they have turned their attentions to Pochettino.

Levy is said to be an admirer of the transformation the Argentine has over seen at the Saints, while a potential move would also be hoped to tempt transfer target Adam Lallana to North London too.

Other candidates also include Ajax manager Frank de Boer and Sporting Lisbon boss Leandro Jardim, while Levy is a known admirer of Everton’s Roberto Martinez – but it is thought the chairman would prefer Premier League experience.
