West Ham boss Allardyce targets Stuttgart defender Rudiger
West Ham have reportedly made an approach to Stuttgart about signing 21-year-old defender Antonio Rudiger, according to Sky Sports.
The Hammers’ defence has looked shaky at times this season, and the club are thought to be looking around for options to plug the leaks – and Rudiger tops the list. The 6ft 3in defender has enjoyed his breakthrough season in the Bundesliga this year, and made his senior debut for Germany in their 0-0 draw with Poland earlier this week.
West Ham’s interest represents only one potential suitor from a queue of clubs, with the likes of Premier League rivals Newcastle also interested, as well as Stuttgart’s fellow Bundesliga outfit Schalke.
Sam Allardyce’s club are thought to have put a £5m offer on the table for the former Borussia Dortmund defender, with an additional £2m in add-ons said to be on offer in the hopes of fending off interest from rival parties.
Rudiger has made 46 appearances for Stuttgart’s senior team since his debut in 2012, scoring two goals.
