Nasri considering international retirement after World Cup snub

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri is strongly considering the possibility of retiring from international football after he was left out of the France World Cup squad, the Guardian has reported.

French national team coach Didier Deschamps opted against selecting Nasri in his 23-man squad, which was announced on Monday. He did not even make the stand-by list either, despite helping Man City win the Premier League and the Capital One Cup this season.

Nasriā€™s omission comes partly as a result of his turbulent relationship with the French football hierarchy, with Deschamps suggesting that he would not be a team player in Brazil.

The 26-year-old, who has 41 caps to his name, was also left out of the 2010 World Cup squad by then-boss Raymond Domenech, and he admits that this latest snub has left him pondering his international future. He said: "It's a little bit hard to accept. I need to take some time now to think about the national team because it's been twice now that they take away a World Cup from me.

"You can go around and ask any player if they're happy to be on the bench, nobody's going to say yes. I need to think a little bit during the holiday, what will be my future in the national team, because missing two World Cups is really hard for a player."
