Muniesa praises Stoke manager Hughes

Stoke defender Marc Muniesa has praised Potters manager Mark Hughes and the influence the Welshman has had since taking over at the Britannia Stadium, according to Sky Sports.

Hughes took over the mantle from now Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis last summer, and managed to lead the club to their highest finish since reaching the Premier League as they finished 9th this season, and Muniesa – who joined the club on a free transfer from Hughes’ old club Barcelona last season – has been impressed with the football the side have played since his arrival.

Speaking to Catalan radio station RAC 1, the 22-year-old said: “It is Stoke's highest finish and I have had a great experience with many great memories of my part in games. The way of playing is easy. We have had five years of playing in the same way with the long ball, but under Hughes we have tried to change that style and be more like Barca.

“The Premier League can be physical though and occasionally we have ended up returning the to the long-ball system.”

Muniesa initially struggled to adapt to life in England, finding first team opportunities somewhat sparse in the early days of the season, but his form picked up and he started each of the Potters’ last four Premier League games.

He has represented Spain up to U-21 level but is yet to wear the shirt in a senior international, though he did turn out for Catalonia on one occasion in 2011.
