Arsenal manager Wenger set to rekindle interest in £30m Real Madrid striker Benzema
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger could be looking to make a bid of around £30m for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to ESPN.
Benzema has been linked with Arsenal throughout the previous two summer transfer windows, and the Frenchman spent time playing in the same side as Gunners’ record signing Mesut Ozil at the Bernabeu.
The 26-year-old only has 12 months left on the six year deal he signed when he moved to the Spanish outfit in 2009, and this could prove to Arsenal’s benefit if Wenger is able to convince his compatriot to swap La Liga for the Premier League this year.
The Gunners may be able to convince Real Madrid to sell now rather than risk losing the striker on a free transfer next year.
Arsenal looked set to sign Benzema last year around the same time that Ozil made the move, but Benzema ultimately remained with the Spanish giants. It is thought Wenger may see the striker’s stance after the Champions League final, which will be contested between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in Lisbon a week on Saturday.
