Chelsea eye up Bayern Munich striker Mandzukic
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is believed to be keen to follow up the signing of Diego Costa with another top forward, and Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic is thought to be the man the Portuguese wants next, according to The Guardian.
Bayern are reportedly interested in signing Blues defender David Luiz, and Chelsea could request that Mandzukic is added to the deal to smooth through the potential transaction.
Costa is set to arrive from Atletico Madrid for a fee reportedly in the region of £32m, but with the Stamford Bridge outfit having struggled at times in front of goal this season despite maintaining a title push, Mourinho is keen to shake up his front line in order to capture some silverware next season after failing to win a trophy in his first season back in west London.
Mandzukic arrived at Bayern in 2012 and has gone on to make over 50 appearances for the deposed Champions League champions. He has represented his native Croatia 48 times since making his senior debut in 2007, and so Chelsea could be getting a striker with a large amount of international experience already under his belt.
The 27-year-old is also reportedly a target for Arsenal, though Chelsea are first thought to have taking an interest in him during his days at NK Zagreb, where he played from 2005-2007.
