Wenger praises Arsenal side for FA Cup final fight-back
Arsene Wenger praised his side’s fighting spirit and suggested that there was better to come from his side, after they defeated Hull City in the FA Cup final, 3-2 after extra time.
Aaron Ramsey capped a fine season by scoring the winning goal in the final minute of extra-time, as the Gunners ended their nine year spell without a trophy.
Two early goals for Hull City, coming from James Chester and Curtis Davies had given the Tigers an early lead, halved when Santi Cazorla converted a free-kick after 17 minutes. However Wenger’s side went in at the break looking lackluster at Wembley Stadium, and a goal down.
It was left to Ramsey, who has 10 league goals to his name this term, to get the winner and avoid a penalty shootout.
Wenger saw the positives from the result, and had praise for the team spirit, telling ITV: "We wanted to make history tonight and win the game and we made it in both ways, how not to start a cup final and how to come back. It's a turning point in the life of the team. They know they can win.
"It would have been terrible, but we came back. I've praised the spirit of this team and I'm very proud of that today. Congratulations to Hull, they played very well."
