Deulofeu unlikely to return to Everton

Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu looks unlikely to return to Everton for a second loan spell, with the youngster expected to be part of the first-team squad at the Nou Camp next season, reports the Daily Mail.

Gerard Deulofeu

On Monday evening, Luis Enrique was announced as Barcelona’s new manager, with predecessor Gerardo Martino having resigned on Saturday after failing to guide the club to a major trophy in his only season in charge.

Enrique holds Deulofeu in high regard, having been manager of Barcelona B for four years up to 2011, and the 20-year-old is expected to be a more prominent member of the first-team in 2014-15.

This represents a blow to Everton boss Roberto Martinez, who had spoken of his desire to bring Deulofeu back to Goodison Park, where he often impressed with his composure and technical ability.

After beating off competition from several other European clubs to sign Deulofeu on loan, Martinez handed him 25 league appearances, in which he scored three goals including an equaliser away to Arsenal. He also contributed with three assists.
