Liverpool manager Rodgers sets sights on Barcelona star Pedro and Swansea striker Bony
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has begun planning for next season, and has already identified potential signings this summer – with Barcelona forward Pedro and Swansea striker Wilfried Bony thought to be in his sights.
The Daily Mail has reported on the Pedro deal, with the 26-year-old’s versatility proving to be very much a carrot to dangle in front of the Liverpool manager. The Spanish international is accomplished up front and on the wing, and with the Reds looking at a potential Premier League title challenge as well as Champions League football next season it is thought that Rodgers sees the Barcelona star as an ideal transfer target this summer.
Pedro’s future at the Catalan club is shrouded in uncertainty following the appointment of Luis Enrique as Barcelona manager, with Enrique confirming that he will be looking at making big changes at the Camp Nou following a trophyless season.
The Metro, meanwhile, are focusing on the potential move for Swansea star Wilfried Bony. The Swans’ record £12m signing is wanted to add some squad depth as well as give Rodgers more options up front, and provide some competition for the likes of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.
Rodgers is believed to have been promised significant funds this summer in order to try and push Liverpool over the title line, and the club are thought to be readying an £18m offer to test the Swans’ resolve to keep the man who has bagged almost a goal every two games since his arrival at the Welsh outfit in 2013.
The Metro also believes, however, that Liverpool will face competition for Bony should negotiations be given some consideration, with Arsenal and – ironically – Barcelona also thought to be taking a look at the 25-year-old Ivory Coast international.
