Southampton weighing up move for Man City winger Sinclair

Thursday 22 May 2014

Southampton could be set to offer Scott Sinclair a route out of Man City by making a move for the winger, according to The Telegraph.

Scott Sinclair

Sinclair, who has had a nomadic career thus far having represented 11 different clubs in 10 seasons as a professional, joined City for around £6.2m in 2012 but has made just 11 appearances for the club, and Saints are keen to bring him in despite manager Mauricio Pochettino reportedly considering his future.

With City having to pay the price for breaching UEFA’s Financial Fair Play Rules Sinclair looks set to leave the Etihad, with Saints reportedly preparing a £2.5m bid for the former Swansea player.

The move would provide Sinclair with an opportunity to kick-start his career, with the former Chelsea player having enjoyed an earlier stint at Swansea prior to his move to the north west, and despite representing Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics he is yet to represent England at senior level, despite turning out for his country at every level from U-17 to U-21.

Southampton are looking to strengthen ahead of next season after impressing pundits with their ninth placed finish, and despite rumours that Mauricio Pochettino could be departing for pastures new – with Tottenham thought to be interested – Sinclair is a player that has admirers on the south coast, and a move during the summer transfer window could see the 25-year-old join his 12th club in 11 seasons.
