Van Gaal ends Man Utd interest in Kroos
Manchester United will not be signing Bayern Munich central midfielder Toni Kroos this summer after new boss Louis van Gaal advised the club to end their pursuit of the German, according to the Guardian.
Kroos had been a long-term target of van Gaal’s predecessor, David Moyes, and the club has continued its efforts to sign him since the Scot was sacked in April, with negotiations reportedly having reached an advanced stage ahead of a proposed £24m move.
The 24-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of next season, had been seen by many at Old Trafford as the player to restore energy and creativity to the Man Utd midfield after a miserable 2013-14. Kroos was seemingly keen on joining, but van Gaal has told his new club to end their interest.
Bayern are still attempting to tie Kroos down to a new contract at the Allianz Arena, as president Karl Hopfner explained: “There will certainly be further talks. But at some point the player has to say what he wants. We will not exceed certain financial boundaries.”
