Tottenham have confirmed that goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes will leave the club when his contract runs out at the end of June, Sky Sports has reported.

Heurelho Gomes

The Brazilian has become something of a forgotten man at White Hart Lane over the past three seasons, having been almost completely left out of the first-team set-up since Brad Friedel arrived to take over as No.1 goalkeeper in 2011. Gomes’ opportunities have become even more limited since Hugo Lloris joined in 2012.

Signed from PSV Eindhoven in the summer 2008, Gomes originally attracted criticism for a series of goalkeeping errors, but soon reached his best form as he established himself as first-choice up until the end of the 2010-11 season, during which he helped the club to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Last season, he made nine appearances during a loan spell with German side Hoffenheim, which has represented his only first-team football since November 2011. He leaves Tottenham after making 135 appearances in all competitions.

Confirming his exit, a Tottenham statement read: "Heurelho Gomes is to leave the club at the conclusion of his contract next month and we would like to wish the popular goalkeeper all the best for the future."
