Chelsea striker Demba Ba expects to stay at Chelsea next season after revealing manager Jose Mourinho wants to keep the 28-year-old, reports Sky Sports.

Ba has found starting opportunities difficult to come by this season, having played from kickoff only six times all season, but the former Newcastle striker says that boss Mourinho has already asked him personally to remain a Chelsea player through next season.

Arsenal have been linked with a move recently, but a fine flourish in form towards the back end of the campaign seem to have done enough to convince the Portuguese that Ba still has a future in west London.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Ba said: “Jose Mourinho has asked me to stay at Chelsea next season. He assured me that my situation wouldn't change. I see this as my reward from God. I weighed up the pros and cons, and think that I will stay put to see what happens.

“I don't know whether my situation will improve, but what with the coach's offer anything can happen. I want to play a lot of matches and I think that will be the case for me.

“I was approached by Arsenal last August. But Mourinho refused to let me join them, as he said he didn't want to help a rival team to get stronger.”

Ba moved from St. James’ Park to Stamford Bridge in January 2013 for an undisclosed fee, but has struggled to replicate the form he enjoyed on Tyneside in order to break into the Blues’ first team plans on a regular basis.

He made his international debut for Senegal in 2008, and has won 18 caps to date, scoring four goals.
