Man Utd boss van Gaal sets his sights on Fabregas
New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has made Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas his top transfer target for the summer, according to the Daily Star.
This comes after the Dutchman ended the club’s pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos, who United had appeared close to signing after former boss David Moyes identified as a key target as he looked to add pace and creativity to the midfield.
Indeed, Moyes spent much of last summer chasing Fabregas before he turned his attentions to Kroos. Man Utd made two offers for the Spaniard in 2013 - including one reportedly of £30m - but failed on both occasions.
This time around, the recently deposed Premier League champions are set to make a bid of £40m, as well as offering Fabregas a weekly wage of £250,000 per week, although the Catalans are unwilling to part with the 27-year-old.
Fabregas joined Barcelona from Arsenal in the summer of 2011 and has won one La Liga title, in 2013. Overall, he has made 151 appearances and scored 42 goals during his current spell at the Nou Camp.
