Pochettino poised to sign new Southampton contract
Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino looks set to sign a new contract on the South coast despite reported interest from Tottenham over their managerial vacancy, according to the Metro.
Spurs are thought to have made Pochettino one of their main candidates to replace the recenty departed Tim Sherwood, while the Argentine’s future at the St. Mary’s Stadium has also been in doubt due to the resignation of former chairman Nicola Cortese in January.
This season, Pochettino guided Southampton to eighth place and their highest ever number of points in a Premier League season, also earning credit for the way he has developed youngsters such as Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers, and improved the games of Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez.
In charge since January 2013, Pochettino now looks set to sign a new deal, which would be a major boost for the club, with several of their star players emerging as targets for other clubs. This is despite the higher budget he would be given at White Hart Lane, as well as the prospect of participating in Europe. Frank De Boer is currently the favourite to take over at Tottenham.
