Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United to reunite with former boss Louis van Gaal, the Daily Star has reported.

Arjen Robben

Since van Gaal was confirmed as the new manager at Old Trafford, Robben, who has played under the 62-year-old for Bayern and the Dutch national team, had been rumoured to be one of Man Utd’s main targets, particularly after van Gaal had ended the club’s interest in teammate Toni Kroos.

However, Robben has been quick to distance himself from the claims. He said: "Manchester United? That's not an option. I am staying at Bayern Munich. And I cannot imagine that Bayern would want to sell me.

"I have only just renewed my contract and we are happy with each other. It would have been a different story had I been unhappy. I would have been open to a move then, because I had a great time under Van Gaal at Bayern. He has been very important for my career. However, fact is that I am very happy at my current club."

Robben has now been at the Allianz Arena for five years, having joined in August 2009. He scored the goal which won the Champions League in 2013, one of 89 he has netted in 167 appearances.
