Vertonghen looking to stay at Tottenham

Sunday 25 May 2014

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has insisted that he would like to remain at the club regardless of who the club appoints as its next manager, Sky Sports is reporting.

Jan Vertonghen

Previously, the Belgian international had hinted that he would make a decision on his future after the club decides on who will succeed Tim Sherwood, with the 27-year-old having played under current favourite Frank De Boer at Ajex. However, that seemingly does not remain the case.

Vertonghen still has two years left to run on a contract which he signed upon joining in the summer of 2012. Since then, he has gone on to become one of Spurs’ most consistent performers at the back, making 82 appearances and scoring eight goals.

On his future, Vertonghen said: "I've got a couple more years at Tottenham and I'm happy, and I want to stay there, so it doesn't matter who the manager will be. He (de Boer) is a good manager but there are other good managers as well so, again, the chairman will make a good decision."

He also rejected claims that he could put himself in the shop window with good performances at the World Cup, adding: "I don't think that is one for us because we all play for nice teams already and we just want to do something nice for Belgium, not for ourselves."
