BBC Sport has confirmed that Tottenham have appointed Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager, with the Argentinian signing a five-year contract at White Hart Lane.

Mauricio Pochettino

Pochettino arrived in England in January 2013 when he replaced Nigel Adkins at Southampton, and has enjoyed a successful tenure at St. Mary’s – but with Tim Sherwood dismissed from the role of Spurs boss following the conclusion of the Premier League campaign, the 42-year-old has continuously been linked with the job.

Reports on Tuesday indicated that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy had hopes of appointing Pochettino “within 48 hours,” but the club have gone on to confirm their new boss quickly.

Pochettino becomes Tottenham’s 10th manager since Levy’s arrival in 2001, and with the north Londoners having qualified for the Europa League next term the former Espanyol boss takes on a side already with European aspirations as opposed to previous clubs Saints, who missed out on continental competition by finishing eighth.

Pochettino has been largely praised for contributing to the development of Southampton stars such as Luke Shaw, Ricky Lambert, Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez, all of whom have gone on to win their first England caps since the Argentinian’s arrival on the south coast.
