Benatia puts Man City on alert after Roma offer

Roma defender Mehdi Benatia has said he is disappointed by the latest offer of wages from the club, increasing speculation he could be on his way out of the club after being linked with Manchester City, reports Sky Sports.



The defender has impressed in his debut campaign following a move from fellow Italian side Udinese and attracted interest from the likes of City, and also Barcelona.


While Benatia himself has denied saying he wants to leave the club in addition to coach Raul Garcia stating he doe not want to sell, the player is said to be upset with the current new wages offered his way.


Talking to La Gazzetta dello Sport he said: “I never said I want to leave. But Roma have not kept their promises. I have received an unacceptable proposal, less than €3million per season. I replied that I would not sign it.


"I'm in love with Rome, I'm very good here but my mistake was to be too correct with the club and too honest."


In regards to speculation Benatia stated that he merely said anyone would dream of playing for the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Manchester City.


The 27-year-old made 30 appearances this season as Roma finished second to Juventus in Serie A.


Benatia added: “I could leave but I could also stay and finish my career in Rome. But I was disappointed (with the new offer), I deserved more respect.”
