Liverpool and England midfielder Jordan Henderson expects club mate Luis Suarez to play against the Three Lions in the World Cup despite his knee injury, ESPN has reported.

Suarez has undergone minor knee surgery since the end of the season and it was suggested that the Liverpool man wouldn’t be ready for the start of the tournament. England and Uruguay meet in Sao Paolo on June 19, five days after Uruguay’s first game, against Costa Rica.

While Suarez is expected to miss the match against the Central Americans, he has warned his Liverpool colleagues that he’ll be back to line-up against them. Henderson, the Reds midfielder named in Roy Hodgson’s England squad, revealed that he had been in contact with Suarez.

“Everybody was obviously disappointed for Luis, people that know him - maybe not us - because he is a big player for Uruguay,” Henderson said. “I gave him a text to see if he is doing all right and wished him good luck with whatever he has got to have done.

“But knowing the type of person he is, he is a fighter and I am sure come maybe the first game or the second game in the World Cup, he will be ready and raring to go.”
